Kirklees Catering Service
It is very important for all young people to eat a healthy, balanced diet and Kirklees Catering Service takes this responsibility very seriously. Here are some facts about our service and the meals we offer in school:

Primary schools offer a freshly prepared two-course meal each day for £2.85.

Meals are made on-site daily using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients.

Each school has an individual menu designed in consultation with the head teacher, pupils and parents.

Free School Meals
Benefits-based Free School Meals
From September 2026, Free School Meals are changing and all children from households in receipt of Universal Credit will be entitled to receive a free meal; there will be two categories of benefits-based free school meals: -
Targeted FSM
for pupils in households in receipt of one or more of the following benefits: -

Universal Credit (annual household earnings of £7,400 or less)

Support under Part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
-
Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
-
Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- No recourse to public funds
eligible children receive: -

free school meals
-
free school milk
-
access to other targeted schemes and benefits when available (e.g. access to extra activities in school holidays, laptop loan schemes and the cost of living vouchers issued in school holidays during and since the pandemic)
Expanded FSM
for pupils in households in receipt of: -

Universal Credit with household earnings above £7400
eligible children receive: -
-
free school meals only
Schools receive extra funding for every child who is entitled to Targeted Free School Meals so please support us by applying if you are eligible. If you need help with your application, please contact the school office and Mrs Mitchell will be happy to help you.

Universal Infant Free School Meals
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who are not eligible for benefits-based Free School Meals automatically receive free meals (but not milk) under a different scheme called Universal Infant Free School Meals.
From Year 3 onwards parents are required to pay for school meals unless their child is eligible for benefits-based Free School Meals.
