Here to help you keep learning away from school

Welcome to Year 6's  Learning Page.  Each week you will have a MyMaths online homework, reading and spellings to complete.

Over each half term everyone should complete a topic project.

If you are currently working at home or just want some extra home learning you will find everything you need here. The maths, reading and writing work will be changed regularly and the topic work in line with each change of topic. If you need any more support with your remote learning please email your teacher at                                                 parents@stthomas.org.uk or through your DB Primary Email.

Weekly Homework

Each week your teacher will set you homework tasks on the My Maths website.  login.mymaths.co.uk

You will always have an activity which you should be familiar

with and one which will stretch you more!

Remember to log on to TT Rockstars and practise your x-tables https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/3866

This website also has some good games to play.....

Remote Learning

If you are at home for longer period of time, waiting for a test result or staying safe in quarantine, you will find your weekly learning here. You will need to complete a maths activity each day.

Your teacher will add extra MyMaths activities to match the work being completed in class. Do this each day to make sure you keep up with the work being completed in school.

Reading

Weekly Homework

You can read to yourself, read to a family member or listen to someone else read, but try to read every day.

A full digital reading library is available on Oxford Owls and you can access as many books as you like.  In October our digital subscription begins and your teacher will help you choose books at an appropriate level!

If you prefer traditional books you will be given a book each Monday, please return it on a Friday.

Remote Learning

If you are at home for longer period of time, waiting for a test result or staying safe in quarantine, you will find your weekly learning here. You will need to complete a reading activity each day.

In class we are reading The Star Outside My Window by Onjai Q. Rauf

If you are working at home we will try to get a copy of the book to you so you can complete the work we are covering in class, or we may email a particular paragraph or page.

Ask your parent to check their emails.

There will also be tasks on Seesaw, please check your app regularly.

Writing

Weekly Homework

Our Year 5/6 spellings this half term are:

soldier         sincere    recommend    relevant     restaurant    yacht

signature       immediately     sufficient      vehicle      twelfth     variety

vegetable       suggest      stomach

Our spelling rule for our homework is:  (It will be CE and SE homophones next week)

Your test won't have a list of words. Instead, we will pick random words that follow the rule we've learnt in class and at home. It's the rule we are learning to apply, not just a list of works.

This website has some fun games to play too- https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/7-11-years/writing

Why not try keeping a diary of your  day? You could add pictures, drawings and write down what you've been doing and feeling.

Ask your parent to check their emails.

Our Seesaw app is now fully up and running and his will help us share work and activities.

Ask your parent to check their emails.

SeeSaw is the best way to share your work. Log and get sharing.

Science

In science, we are looking at the Earth, Moon and Sun as well as the constallations and solar system.

Creating models of the planets and solar system is a great way to visualise them. You could also try tracking the phases of the moon by draw what the moon looks like each night to see the shadow on the moon move and change as the month goes on.
